12 Reasons Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs

12 Reasons Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs

It is a never-ending battle than can break relationships, friendships, and even marriages. Cat owners want their cats to be acknowledged the best. Dog owners also want their dogs to be the best. It may be a difficult decision on whether to choose a cat or dog. They are both furry friends and are proven to improve health conditions in humans like depression and anxiety.

These two animals are very different from each other. Cats have more favorable traits than dogs. They are adorable, clean, and are quiet. Even though dogs are referred to as a man’s best friend, cats were once revered as gods. There is a lot of research to back this up. Here are the reasons why cats are better than dogs.

1. Cats Are Way Cheaper Than Dogs

Keeping pets and taking care of them is expensive. Adopting a cat can cost $47 while a dog starts at $160. You can expect expenditures like neutering and spaying, buying toys, a litter box, food, and treats for both animals. A dog is bigger than a cat hence their expenditure will cost more than for a cat’s.

2. Cats Do Not Take Too Much Space

Dogs like stretching and occupying everyone’s space. If you have ever shared your bed with a dog, then you know how they take a ton of space. They need space to stretch, sleep, and play. But cats only require a little space to do all of this. Their litter box, bed, toys, food, and water dishes also take a minimal room. And most importantly, they understand the meaning of personal space.

3. Cats Are Quieter

Every dog owner will admit that having a dog can be very annoying. Especially when they bark at a passerby or an animal and it becomes worse during nighttime.

Cats too make a lot of noise especially at night, but their meows and purrs are quiet. Their meows do mean something, maybe they are hungry or they want to get out of the house.

4. Kittens Need Less Work Than Puppies

Both kitties and puppies require lots of attention, energy, and time to adapt to their new home. Kitties will only need to be weaned and taught to use a litter box and that’s it. But puppies will need ongoing training even after they are taught for a while.

You can leave the kitty at home and come back to a non-messy house.

5. Cleaning a Cat’s Litter Is Easier

It does seem a little weird that cats use a box for their poop and pee. But it is quite easier rather than taking the dog out to poop with you holding a scoop and a plastic bag. A cat’s instinct is to bury their waste to hide their territory. You will notice that they will do the same wherever they poop or pee.

6. Cats Love Cleaning Themselves

If you spend the whole day with a cat, you’ll notice that they will lick themselves after every 20 to 30 minutes. They’ll make sure that they groom themselves from the top of the head to the ears, up to the tip of the tail.

Dogs, on the other hand, love to be around dirt. They smell at all kinds of stuff including diapers and garbage. They also love to roll on dirt and the garbage leaving a nasty smell on them. You’ll spend a limitless amount of time trying to groom and bath your dog.

7. Cats Are Natural Hunters

Cats have it in their DNA to stalk and hunt prey wherever they see one. This is one of the benefits you’ll enjoy as a cat owner. Your cat’s scent alone has the power to keep away any rodents from your home.

8. Cats Are Okay with Indoors

Dogs simply cannot have an indoors lifestyle since they have to exercise and have plenty of walks to be their happy selves. Cats are content with living indoors and they feel safer while in the house. Simply put their bed near a sunny spot and open the window a little bit for their fresh air. Remember not to open it wider so that they won’t escape. Make room for them near the windows so they can glance at birds and other creatures all day long.

9. When They Love You, They Really Do

Dogs seem to love and are also be happy to meet everyone. When they shower you with love, you’ll feel great. But you’ll see the dog doing the same to everyone else. And thus, questioning their love.
Cats choose who they will show their affection and at what time. You will feel nice when a cat warms up to you and even wants to cuddle next to you or sit on your laps. It feels something unique and you’ll know you have earned all that love.

10. They Splash Less

When cats drink water, they don’t just lick it. They put their tongue into their bowl, form a funnel with their tongue and lift water back to their mouths. Hence, they splash less. But you cannot say the same for dogs when they drink the water. They will splash it everywhere. Furthermore, their drooling can be irritating.

11. Cats Sleep a Lot

Cats sleep between 12 to 16 hours a day. So, you can easily do your chores without any disturbance from your cat. You can also take in a few snapshots of your feline friend while sleeping.
Dogs, however, do not sleep that much and will want to be around you 24/7.

12. They Are Better Hosts Than Dogs

If you have a dog and have some friends over, you’ll notice that Fido may want to jump on them. They may also bark at them. But if you are a pur-rent, your feline friend will remain calm and sleep. Others will hide when they notice new people. But once the cat feels safe around them, he will come out and say hello without jumping on your guests.

Final Thoughts

From their clean selves to the way they respect your space, you can never get tired of cats. They don’t need too much attention like dogs. Just give them food, a clean litter, affection, and their space and you will have a friend forever.
