There are some places in this world that have been abandoned on account of miscellaneous reasons. They give out an eerie feel when you visit them. These places has its own distinct story which telling you why they have been ignored and abandoned. Some of the causes are natural while others are related to neglect or other mysterious reasons. This Disney attraction at Discovery Island at Buena Vista in Florida was abandoned on two accounts. The first reason was that the surrounding water body contained harmful bacteria that could kill people and the second reason was that parts of the island were reported to be haunted.

This theme park was built in the foothills of Mount Fuji. It was a government project but turned out to be a white elephant for the Japanese. It has been abandoned and all that remains is the eerie statue of Gulliver and several unsettling images. This started as a tourist attraction in 1997 but due to losses, it did not last even for ten years.

These were constructed in 1978 and were meant as a vacation resort to attract military officers of the United States who came in to Taiwan from their postings in East Asian regions. This plan was abandoned in 1980 due to losses in investment and various accidental deaths.

Francis Bannerman VI is the owner of this castle. He had built this place for storage when he bought military surplus equipment from USA. This was the surplus from the Spanish war. In 1920, a large part of this castle was blown up due to an ammunition accident. The castle was abandoned.

The actual construction of this hotel proved to be more difficult than originally thought so by the workers. It was planned as a tall building that spanned one hundred and five floors but due to the famine that ravaged this country, its construction was abandoned after a few years. Construction began after sixteen years in 2008 but the place still gives an abandoned feel.

An insane asylum had to end up on this compilation. Besides being abandoned, it gives a haunted look, too. This building exists since 1869 and it was shut down in 1955. There used to be over four thousand patients that lived here at one time. Almost fifty thousand people who died in this asylum are buried under it. The morgue section is one of the creepiest regions of this building.

This abandoned site in Siberia is another man-made creation. This huge hole was constructed as per Stalin’s orders so that the demand for diamonds in the Soviet Union could be satisfied. This whole project was abandoned after the miners found it to be too difficult after digging such a huge hole.

Not many people know that New York State is more haunted than they would like to think. This farmhouse was turned into a cemetery for vintage cars and old car accessories. You will come across this abandoned farmhouse in Seneca Lake. These bodies of old cars have now become empty shells.

After the famous nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in 1986, people were forced to run away from the town of Pripyat in Ukraine. Almost five thousand people ran away on account of the amount of radiation that was present in the air. It will take several hundreds of years before people can find it safe to walk around again in this town.

Many towns in the western parts of the United States of America were left abandoned by the miners who did not find them suitable for inhabitation after they extracted all the gold that they could find there. They usually left for the neighboring cities that provided opportunities in gold mining. An abandoned town such as Berlin in Nevada still stands today, making it a popular attraction for tourists.

12. Oradour-sur-Glane, France

Some places in this world have been abandoned due to natural disasters while others have been deserted on account of man-made disasters. This village in France was a victim of a massacre when more than six hundred people were killed in 1944 by an SS Company called `Waffen’. This village was in Nazi-occupied France. Among the people massacred were children and women. The French government built a new village nearby and Charles de Gaulle maintained this destroyed village as a museum and a memorial.

Eruption of Chaiten Volcano in 2008 wiped out and destroyed most of the town of Chaiten. The Blanco River flooded the whole town, making it inhabitable for people. The government of Chile did manage to rebuild this town but as it was close to the volcano, people decided to ignore it. You will come across homes at this town that have been demolished and you will find tangled wires of telephones.
